Step by step
- 1
Start on the right: Segments and Value proposition. Without a clear customer, the rest is guesswork.
- 2
Then the left: what you need to do and have, and who with, to deliver that proposition.
- 3
Finish with the money: costs bottom left, revenue bottom right.
- 4
Use sticky notes: one idea per note, so you can change things without crossing out.
- 5
Test it: can you explain the canvas to someone in 2 minutes? If not, simplify.
Common mistakes
- Writing "everyone" under Segments.
- A value proposition made of features ("we have a wood-fired oven") instead of benefits.
- Forgetting hidden costs: accounting, insurance, CCSS (social security), software.
In Digi tip
Make two canvases: one for your business today, another for 2 years from now. The difference between them is your plan.
